Introduction to Hydrogen Generating Plants

Angstrom Advanced is the leading supplier of Hydrogen Generators for refinery, petrochemical and other industrial applications. Our services for Hydrogen Generating Plant projects typically include conceptual design, detailed engineering, procurement, fabrication, construction, start-up and operational training. We provide a lump-sum, turnkey solution, handling everything from concept to start-up with our own resources whenever possible.

Principles of Operation of Hydrogen Generator by Ammonia Decomposition

Hydrogen Generator by decomposition of ammonia use liquid ammonia as raw material, preheated liquid ammonia is gasified to enter into decomposition with catalyst, ammonia is decomposed to release mixed gas composed of 75% hydrogen and 25% of the nitrogen under certain temperature and pressure, mixed gas could be purified or be used directly after getting across gas-cooler and heat exchanger and flow meter.

  • The dissociation of Ammonia Gas takes place in the presence of a NICKEL CATALYST at temperature of 850 ℃. to 900 ℃. in an electrically heated or fuel fired automatic Furnace. Nickel Catalyst promotes the following chemical reaction:
    2NH3 → N2 + 3H2
  • The gas production amounts to 2.63 NM3 per Kg of ammonia feed stock, with residual ammonia contents less than 20 ppm and dew points up to -50 ℃.
  • Main application of ammonia gas is in heat treatments, i.e. Sintering, Brazing, Bright Annealing etc. as a protective gas.
  • Certain applications specify the need of gas having extremely low residual ammonia contents and very low gas dew point. Such high quality of clean and dry protective gas can be achieved by employing MOLECULAR SIEVE PURIFIER after the ammonia cracker in the Hydrogen Generator. After the purifier, the residual ammonia contents fall below 3 ppm and dew point of gas improves up to -80 ℃.
